“Trained originally as a painter and a teacher of Art,
I have always been fascinated by fabric, even as a small child,
I sewed and embroidered.
A chance visit to an embroidery exhibition in 1975 showed me
the way I really wanted to work. This led to a number of years
of study. I enjoy the exploration of textile processes and the
tactile quality of cloth. I am endlessly fascinated with fabric
and threads and to seeing what happens when colours are mixed
together on the surface.
Landscape and the human figure are the recurring themes of my work. I am inspired by landscape as a subject, its colours, and moods as well as its historical associations. The portrayal of the human figure allows me to explore character, story and mood as well as historical or symbolic associations.
